Empathy

Truman exhibited his first act of empathy today. We were out at a park with Khai and Sarah. It was a chilly day and both boys had hats, but Khai's had been left in the car.

Truman hasn't been a huge fan of hats this winter, so I expect he won't wear one unless it's freeze-your-ears-off cold. But he was wearing his hat today for a while, but then took it off, so I let Khai (who has been loving hats recently) wear it.

Later, Truman ran up to Khai and took his hat back. Khai started crying while Truman dashed away and put on the hat.

"Truman, that hat is very important to Khai and he would really like to wear it, since it is not that important to you, can he use it for now?"

Truman thought for a few seconds, then took off the hat and walked it over to Khai.

I could hardly believe it. He seemed to understand completely what was going on and chose of his own volition (prompted by me, yes, but he's not the type to do anything unless he wants to) to give Khai the hat.

T climbed up on this hill and said "look at me!":

Leaf Buffet

It was an all the leaves you can eat experience with Sarah and Khai last week. Oddly, he didn't try to eat many leaves when finally given an giant pile. He seemed to enjoy it a little. I think he'll enjoy a giant pile of leaves next year when he can run and jump into them. Khai used them as a cradle. For more pictures, head here.

p.s. I did not freeze my child by taking his shirt off just for the sake of a picture; it was an unusually warm day =)

Two Babies for the Price of One

Sarah and Khai came over yesterday and the babies had a fun time discovering each other. Khai looks young and defenseless in some of these photos, but a few minutes after they got here he did a perfect punch to knock Truman's pacifier out of his mouth. It didn't seem to bother Truman. Khai is ten weeks younger than Truman.

After they left he passed out on Joe:

Welcome Khai!

Sarah gave birth to a beautiful baby boy June 21 at 6:07 p.m. Truman and I were there photographing and helping Sarah through the labor. Here is Truman at 11 weeks laying next to Khai Liam, less than an hour old. Khai and Truman were the same birth weight — 8 pounds 9 ounces.

Before we weighed Khai, he looked so small to me I couldn't picture Truman ever having been that size and even said "Truman was never that small."

Here's one more picture of Khai at two days old because I can't resist:
